“Games have grown up, and playing them is no longer reserved for children. In fact, the ability to play may be the single most important skill to develop for the 21st century.” (Thomas & Brown, 2011)
Convocation 2013
Not all of us live in Calgary, but four of us managed to make it to convocation and we made sure to get a picture of us together
My Cohort M4T
We started out with sixteen students in our cohort but at the end of the two years we were down to eleven. We meet for two weeks during the summer and then did synchronis classes online during the rest of the year. It makes it a challenge when you need to find a time that works in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Japan. 6 am on a Sunday morning is very early for a class that requires deep thinking but we made it work. After learning together for 2 years, most of us are still in contact and go out for brunch or wings when it can be arranged.
Brent Davis
M4T's faculty advisor was Mr. Brent Davis.
Professor at the University of Calgary, and Research Chair.
M4T Program
The Mathematics for Teaching program (M4T) was a sub-section of the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning department of Educational Research at the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This program was set up as a cohort in which a group of graduate students took all the same courses at the same time.
This program looked at education as a Complexity Science as well as delving indepth into what mathematics teachers actually need to know to teach mathematics effectively.
