“Games have grown up, and playing them is no longer reserved for children. In fact, the ability to play may be the single most important skill to develop for the 21st century.” (Thomas & Brown, 2011)
My Journey through the Masters of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program has really pushed my limits for what I thought my best was. I have learned that no one piece of technology is going to do everything you want it to; however, with a little creativity and perseverance you can combine technologies together to create a final product that was better than you thought it could have been when you conceived it. Through my work in the MAET program, I have become a more Insightful, Innovative, and Inspired teacher.
I have become more Insightful, through the effort of deeply exploring new topics. These experiences have made me more aware of ensuring all students are included and supported, a reminder of what it feels like to be frustrated, and the ability to be more focused on designing games whose elements best elicit the desired learning.
I have become more Innovative, through the combination of technology and the Math curriculum. I am using technology as a tool to improve differentiation, increase student engagement, and to increase student confidence in mathematics. Through the design of technology supported activities and games in mathematics, I have become more focused on engaging more students in the love, or at least like, of mathematics.
I have become more Inspired to make changes in the field of Education. I have started to engage in presenting professional development opportunities for other teachers and aspiring teachers. I believe that it is important that as teachers, we share what we learn or design to have more students engaged in learning.
